Southern Man Room
Usually when I think man room, I think tacky sports memorabilia with beer signs, oversized sectionals and Sports Illustrated posters. This room on the other hand is far from the wannabe sports bars men try to create in their home. With southern charm and timeless touches this space is a gentlemen's retreat. We combined reclaimed wood and beautiful traditional elements to create an inviting room to entertain and relax. On the back wall we put beautiful espresso colored barn wood at an angle with amazing red barn doors leading to their storage room. The car siding through out the room created warmth and detail. My client did an great job choosing this gorgeous dark grey for the walls. The handscraped Acacia wood floors have fantastic color variation and go with just about anything.
In this space we had to have a few key elements, a bed area for guests, a custom bar, turn a half bath turned into a full, and an entertaining area. We created a nook for a custom bed made of reclaimed barn wood. The nook was key, it recessed the bed so it didn't stick out in the middle of the the room. It also makes for a perfect place for relaxing with a great book.
There are two bar areas, in this space. One is a beautiful Amish bar made of Alder wood. The espresso stain gave this knotty rustic wood a a touch of elegance. I added columns to frame the copper apron sink to give it a vintage bar feel. The countertops are a black sueded granite which is muted and beautiful. The gorgeous copper hammered apron sink seals the deal on this bar and gives it a pop of color with still keeping with a vintage bar look.
The second bar was strictly for seating, we made it from pipes and a custom espresso wood top. My client picked out fabulous bar stools that go perfectly. Again simple yet detailed.
The main focal point of the room is this amazing bourbon wall that frames a massive tv and fun detail all around. My client was very specific about her wants for this custom built in. She gave me the below picture, which has reclaimed wood that had been refinished and satined to perfection.
THe built in neede to reflect the above picture but have its own twist, to make it their own. We decided to put corrugated metal behind the shelving and add a custom gear sign above the tv. I used new wood and made it look like reclaimed wood to achieve this look.
The gear sign was created with old gears I found at the local Salvage yard, Salvage Candy. We went to the back junk yard area and literally took apart old engines etc. I then found an one of a kind vintage piece of wood with scalloped trim and designed the gears on it. This is a fun eye catching detail to the bourbon wall.
In the bathroom we changed a large closet into a walk in shower, retiled the floor with paint and crown. We stayed with greys and my client painted her vanity a eye popping navy, the combo is subtle and timeless.
These Chesterfield chairs and sofa are to die for. When my client described the seating she was looking for, I knew this would be perfect. The car siding on the wall gives the room more detail.
All of these elements combined with my clients impeccable style, create a fun and inviting gentlemens retreat. I deffinatley see bourban, beers and cigars happening in this space.
